| Updated: Tropical Storm Cristobal forms off Carolinas Sat, 19 Jul 2008 16:22:00 EST Tropical Storm Cristobal formed today off the South Carolina coast, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It had maximum sustained winds near 40 mph and was expected to strengthen. A tropical storm warning remained in effect from South Santee River, S.C., to the North Carolina/Virginia border. The storm was moving northeast at 7 mph. At 2 p.m., it was about 100 miles east of Charleston, S.C. It was expected to move along the Carolina coasts over the next couple of days.
